3 Signs Of Dehydration In Your Dog

Dehydration is the effect of not getting enough water. If you aren't drinking enough water, you could dehydrate, and the same can happen to your dog. If your dog is dehydrated, they may be exhibiting a number of different signs, all of which can be troubling to watch. If your dog is exhibiting any of these signs, you should take your dog to an animal care hospital to get your dog the proper treatment they need to help them feel better.
1. Lethargic
Your dog may not be feeling up to themself and may be laying around more often than usual. They may not get up when someone comes to the door like they usually do, or may not be up for going for their usual walk, or may not be bringing their toys to you to play with him. If your dog is sleeping a lot more and isn't getting up as much, they may be feeling lethargic due to a lack of water consumption or a lack of water in their system.
2. Vomiting Or Diarrhea
If your dog is vomiting or has very wet diarrhea, they may be suffering from dehydration. If your dog loses too much water, they will dehydrate, or they may already be dehydrated. If they are dehydrated, their vomit may stop and they may only be dry heaving. If your dog has either of these issues, you need to make sure they continue to drink water, but only give it in small increments to prevent them from throwing up further.
3. Dry Nose
If your dog has a dry, cracked nose, it could be a sign of dehydration. If your dog isn't getting enough water, it could cause an issue with your dog's skin, including your dog's nose. If it begins to crack and become dry, keep an eye out for other symptoms of dehydration as well. Your dog's skin may also be dry, or they could begin to lose their fur.
If you suspect your dog is dehydrated, is exhibiting any of the above-mentioned signs, or you have noticed other signs as well, including that they are not acting like themself, take them to the animal hospital for a thorough exam and for any treatment that may be needed. If your dog is dehydrated, they may need intravenous medication and saline in order to reverse the effects of dehydration. Keep an eye on your dog to be sure they are drinking plenty of water throughout the day, and make sure your dog has access to clean and fresh drinking water.
